Sometimes, I sit back and wonder how it is that I get through all of the stress that I have in college. Just today, I woke up at 7:45am and went to the gym for almost an hour. Since then, it’s just been one thing after another, with no rest at all! After a long day of class, work, stress, and whatever else I have had to do, I’m usually full of half-formed thoughts and weird swirling emotional stuff, you know?
So, what do I do so that I can get it all out? I talk to Margaret.
Who is Margaret?
Margaret is my roommate, and this is the second year that we have lived together. We met through an interesting set of circumstances. Once I committed to NC State, I started looking for a roommate for my freshman year. Basically, that means that I posted a lot of sad and desperate posts begging people to live with me. I had so many people message me, but none of them worked out. At some point, I just gave up. I decided that throwing myself into the random roommate mix would be less stressful than constant rejection and stalking my Facebook. The day after I made that decision, I saw a post on the Facebook group page and I liked it, but didn’t think much of it. Soon after, she messaged me, and it seemed strangely familiar. Her message looked an awful lot like my sad and desperate posts! We ended up getting along pretty well, and decided to meet up at Panera to talk things out. That was a success and I went home with confidence that I’d found someone that I could live with for my first year without wanting to lock them out everyday.
Margaret and I kept talking, and ended up officially committing to live together. The more we talked in the time leading up to move-in, the more similar it appeared that we were. I’m pretty sure that she’s my mental twin, honestly. We both understand each other without saying anything, and completely relate to one another’s experiences, which sometimes is really weird!
Why She’s my Best Friend
Having her around makes me feel like I can actually accomplish things. She’s always there for me, even when she’s tired or stressed out. I love being able to go to the gym together, or just sit on the couch and veg out while watching the Food Network! Margaret really supports me and will not hesitate to tell me when I’m just being insane. We both keep each other’s priorities in order, such as screaming at one another when we see a dog (because you definitely don’t want to miss a dog)! Honestly, she’s one of the best people that I know. I am so glad that I’ve been able to become her friend. I really value our friendship and appreciate everything that she does for me. As this semester draws to a close, I can’t wait to live with her again next semester and then go off to Europe together for the spring (sadly, in different countries, though)!
Thank you, Margaret, for being an excellent friend and always being down to make terrible life decisions together. That one party, a trampoline park, so many food excursions… College really wouldn’t be the same without you. Much love always!
